The ND-generation Mazda MX-5 is perhaps one of the best-looking roadsters from Hiroshima, so good that our man Theophilus Chin decided to slap a few of the best looking car fronts that we see today onto the MX-5's body and without doubt, they all look pretty handsome, save for one.
An MX-5 with an Alfa Romeo Giulia's face takes the first spot, this could be one of the designs that could have happened if Alfa Romeo and Mazda actually did produce a two-door convertible. The car that was under discussion was supposed to sit on the current generation MX-5's platform but in the end, the plan was scrapped.
Either way that front fascia does look like a perfect fit - something we think the Italians might sit around all day to appreciate. It has to be said that, while Alfa isn't going to be building the Spider off the MX-5's bones, its place will be taken by Fiat and its 124 Spider.
Next up, is a Toyota 86, if you've ever imagined a sleeker, more compact version of Toyota's signature coupe and in convertible form, well there you have it. It looks rather bland with the 86's front, though, but then again, design is a subjective thing. The two Japanese brands have actually worked together previously to come up with the Scion iA, a rebadged version of the Mazda 2 Sedan, for that matter.
It's also interesting to note, that the Toyota 86 has had its own convertible version imagined, coming in the form of the Toyota FT-86 Open concept which has been showcased before, a couple of years back at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. In this case, Theophilus does quite a good job conceptualising a smaller version of the concept droptop albeit in an MX-5 get-up.
Third up, the MX-5 is imagined with a front that originates from the four-door Tesla Model S, compared to the 86 and the Alfa Romeo. The rendering actually looks pretty stunning; some may agree that it looks even more captivating than Tesla's roadster which is based off the Elise. In fact, it looks so good that we hope something actually comes out of it! Which MX-5 rendering do you like best?
