The recently-launched Renault Fluence won't be the only Renault model to come out of Tan Chong Motor Assemblies' Segambut plant in recent time.
TC Euro Cars director Kuan Kim Luen revealed to members of the press today that another Renault model is set to be locally assembled (CKD), and that it could surface as early as next year.
While no mention was made of the model in question, nor its segment, it's expected to be a volume model, in line with Renault Malaysia's foray into the mainstream vehicle market, led by the introduction of the Fluence this morning.
If we consider the burgeoning B-segment, the likely candidates are the standard fourth-gen Clio and the Captur crossover. Is there room in our market for a small French hatch, or will the Peugeot 2008, plus upcoming Ford EcoSport and Honda Vezel SUVs, be Captur-ed?
On a separate note, Renault group Asia-Pacific chairman Gilles Normand said that Malaysia becoming a base for exports of Renault vehicles to the ASEAN region was a "possibility."
For the Fluence, Renault Malaysia is targeting initial sales of 100 units a month, moving forward to 1,000 per annum. The company aims to expand its network to 25 dealers and 17 service centres nationwide by 2016.
