Audi A8 L W12 quattro

Euromobil has put up a price list and brochure of the facelifted Audi A8 on its website. The new four-ringed luxury sedan will come in just one variant, a long-wheelbase 3.0 TFSI quattro, the same as before. Retailing at RM689,500 on the road without insurance, it costs a heady RM30,700 more than the outgoing model.

For that price, you do get more equipment as standard, including Audi's new Matrix LED headlights with sequential turn signals and a rear seat entertainment system that was previously a cost option. Also new are 15-spoke 19-inch alloy wheels in a polished finish.

The 3.0 litre turbocharged V6 engine produces 310 hp, 20 more horses than before, made from a higher base rpm of 5,200 to 6,500 rpm. Torque has also risen by 20 Nm to 440 Nm produced between 2,900 and 4,750 rpm.

Mated to the same eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive, it runs to 100 km/h in 5.9 seconds (0.3 seconds faster than before), while top speed remains limited to 250 km/h. Combined fuel consumption is rated at 7.9 litres per 100 km.

With such a high price (as customary for a fully-imported model), the Audi A8 L 3.0 TFSI doesn't compare very favourably to the just-launched Mercedes-Benz S 400 L Hybrid, which is locally-assembled and enjoys import and excise duty exemption thanks to its Energy Efficient Vehicle status. Not only does the Stuttgart competitor feature more kit, it also uses less fuel and is over RM100k cheaper.
