No, it hasn't officially been unveiled, or for that matter even announced - the 2015 Mazda 2 Sedan is still very much clad in disguise and undergoing field trails in Thailand, as seen in our earlier post today. Details about the car have thus far been non-existent, but now provisional details of the sedan have emerged in a local tech sheet listing out the specification of the upcoming Mazda 2.

Earlier in the week, initial details of the local specification 2 were released, complete with indicative pricing – RM87,xxx for the hatch, and RM85,xxx for the sedan, with first deliveries of the Thai-assembled hatch scheduled to begin here in early 2015 (it arrives in Australia next month). The sedan is expected to follow later.

Our initial report mentioned that in terms of specifications, everything was pointing to us getting a variant identical to the mid-level R Spec that will be sold in Indonesia, where it made its ASEAN debut last week at the IIMS) which has now been confirmed to be the case.

Also confirmed is that both Hatch and Sedan forms will get identical standard equipment. Common to both HS body-styles are leather seats (manual adjustment), a leather-wrapped steering wheel/gearshift knob and single-zone auto air-conditioning.

They will also feature a seven-inch LCD touchscreen as part of the MZD Connect infotainment system (no built-in navigation), a six-speaker CD/MP3 audio system with Aux, USB and Bluetooth connectivity and a reverse camera.

Other standard kit includes paddle shifters, push start ignition, i-stop idling stop system, DRLs and halogen headlamps, and both Mazda 2 bodystyles will ride on 16-inch alloys (identical design, as suggested by the spyshot of the sedan), wrapped with 185/60 rubbers (Dunlop Enasave 300+ eco-tyres, as seen on the Indonesian version displayed at the IIMS).

Safety equipment comprises dual airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and traction control. Some of the feature fields in the sheet are blank, which suggests that there will be kit to help differentiate both cars, aside from items such as a bodykit and spoiler.

Both Hatch and Sedan will be powered by a 1.5 litre direct-injected SkyActiv-G four-cylinder petrol mill, good for 115 PS at 6,000 rpm and 148 Nm at 4,000 rpm, paired with a six-speed SkyActiv-Drive automatic transmission.

The single biggest item of note in the local tech sheet is the mention of dimensions for the Sedan, previously unreported. The Hatch, we already know to be 4,060 mm long, 1,695 mm wide and 1,495 mm tall, with a 2,570 mm wheelbase and a boot offering 220 litres of space.

The Sedan has the same width, height and wheelbase length, but is 260 mm longer than the Hatch at 4,320 mm, and it has nearly double the boot space, with 410 litres available (which would make it marginally larger than the Mazda 3 Sedan's, at 408 litres).

Also mentioned are the kerb weights for both Malaysian cars, and the Sedan is the lighter offering, tipping the scales at 1,026 kg to the Hatch's 1,056 kg.

So there you have it, the first numbers for the Mazda 2 Sedan, as well as the equipment the local spec car will be wearing. More when the time comes, and as for the shape, when the cladding comes off. Read Jonathan Lee's impressions of the Mazda 2 hatch from the test drive in Japan.
