We're obviously bigger fans of Formula 1 than America's NASCAR, but it has to be said that there's an appeal in watching racing versions of everyday cars going round a track at breakneck speeds. It's even more bizarre when the car in question carries the name "Toyota Camry."
Nope, this is not your uncle's vehicle of choice. The 2015 Toyota Camry NASCAR is the updated 'Gen-6' racer that will compete in next year's Sprint Cup Series and Xfinity Series (currently the Nationwide Series). It's just a silhouette race car, of course, with no mechanical links to the USDM production car whatsoever.
Designed by TRD with the help of Toyota's Calty Design team, the new car "looks exactly like its production counterpart" from the front, though the visual resemblance is mostly made up of stickers. The bonnet (or hood, if you must), rear extensions and quarter windows are also new, which "add to the sleeker look."
The Toyota Camry (or at least its hard-charging doppelganger) has been racing in NASCAR since 2007. Other than the Camry, the so-called American stock car series also includes a field Ford Fusion (a.k.a. Mondeo) and Chevrolet SS lookalikes.
