This is the Citroen C3-XR, the production version of the C-XR concept from Auto China 2014 earlier this year. It was unveiled at a symbolic location – the brand's C_42 showcase on the Champs Elysées – to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Franco-Chinese diplomatic relations.
Looking practically identical to the earlier concept, the C3-XR is basically Citroen's version of the Peugeot 2008, but with bespoke exterior and interior styling – although from the overall exterior shape and size you can pretty much identify it as a 2008.
But while the Peugeot 2008 is only available with three-cylinder and four-cylinder normally-aspirated engines so far, the Citroen C3-XR will get the turbocharged 1.6 litre THP 160 Start & Stop engine mated to a new EAT6 six-speed automatic gearbox.
The Citroen C3-XR will be built in Wuhan, China through the company's joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Corp, and appears to be limited to the Chinese market only.
