A completely new Jaguar XF might be upon us in the near future, judging from the array of spyshots. A heavily camouflaged prototype has been captured undergoing what looks like endurance testing around the roads of Europe, as well as on the Nurburgring.
The Jaguar XF first was revealed to the world in 2007 and was positioned as a competitor to the mid-size luxury car segment - which is dominated by the Audi A6, BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. With rivals already being updated, it's no surprise a new version is required to stay competitive.
From what we can gather, the car seems to have an elongated wheelbase compared to the current version. With the Jaguar XE revealed, the company should be able to increase the size of the new XF in order to further distance it from its smaller sibling as well as offer class-leading interior room.
As for powertrain concerns, it's safe to say that there is a high possibility that engines from the Ingenium range will be employed. Transmission options should echo that of the Jaguar XE, with drive going to the rear wheels. Expect all-wheel drive to be offered at a later date.
