The Toyota C-HR Concept has just been unveiled at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, and we now have the full low-down on the bizarre-looking C-segment crossover. This is an important car for Toyota, as it's said to meld together the design ingenuity of the original RAV4, hybrid technology of the next-generation Prius, as well as the dynamism and agility of the 86 sports car.
It's the car that rings true to Toyota president Akio Toyoda's promise of "building more emotional cars that make their owners fall in love with driving again," claims the Japanese carmaker. While we can't comment on the way it will drive just yet (no details on the hybrid powertrain has been released anyway), the C-HR Concept's looks tell a story all on its own.
Expanding on Toyota's current Under Priority and Keen Look design identity, the C-HR introduces a new diamond architecture theme as well as other styling elements that preview the future design direction for Toyota vehicles. It's said to be built on a brand new Toyota platform too, and it measures 4,350 mm long, 1,850 mm wide and 1,500 mm high, with a 2,640 mm wheelbase.
With massive wheelarches front and back, it has a broad and planted stance from every angle. The large, intricately designed headlamps incorporate three-dimensional LED daytime running lights, while the rear end is equally bold with swoopy and protruding taillamps. Steeply raked C-pillars with blacked-out edges create a slim floating roofline that's very distinctive indeed.
Love it or hate it, but can you imagine future Toyotas looking like this?
