Having been officially christened the Jaguar F-Pace, the prototype of the new SUV from Coventry has been captured undergoing tests in a variety of conditions ranging from snow to on-road durability sessions. First presented as the Jaguar C-X17 concept way back in 2013, the mule hints at a finished article that more or less mirrors what was available on the original.
Though heavily camouflaged, the prototype appears to possess the front end of the concept with a blunt, bold front grille - think Jaguar XE front end scaled up and you're close. The power bulge on the bonnet and gargantuan front air intakes on the C-X17 appear to have made it across to the F-Pace, as well.
At the rear, the design of the tail lamps appear to have been inspired by the Jaguar F-Type, as evident from the thin, wraparound motif. Twin exhaust pipes are featured on the mule, with the highest-performing (F-Pace R, anyone?) variant likely to double that amount.
The Jaguar F-Pace will ride on the Jaguar XE's aluminium iQ[Al] platform, which means it should be able to undercut its rivals by a fair margin in terms of kerb weight. Under the hood, the car will most definitely be powered by the firm's range of Ingenium engines - again, likely to echo the options on the XE.
Rear-wheel drive will be offered alongside the option of all-wheel drive while the transmission of choice will likely be the same ZF 8HP eight-speed transmission found, again, in the XE. With development of the SUV gaining momentum, the public can expect the see the production car as soon as late 2015 or early 2016.
