Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP) and the Sprint highways have been undergoing pavement rehabilitation and resurfacing since March 2014, and the work is expected to finish in January 2016, according to a Bernama report.
According to Lingkaran Trans Kota Sdn Bhd (Litrak) group CEO Sazally Saidi, RM36 million has been allocated for this purpose, RM25 million of which is for work on 30% of the LDP and the remaining RM11 million for 20% of the Sprint highway.
"The maintenance work, part of the guideline of the Malaysian Highways Authority (LLM), needs to be carried out by highway concessionaires every seven years. For the first maintenance cycle of the LDP, we spent about RM50 million for the whole 40 km stretch," he said.
He added that the final phase is intentionally deferred to coincide with the completion of the MRT project for better coordination and minimal traffic disruption.
Litrak's work will be in tandem with MRT's reinstatement and restoration programme, which involves a 1.5 km stretch of the LDP at Bandar Utama Interchange-Taman Tun Dr Ismail as well as a 4.7 km stretch of the Sprint highway at Section 16-Kiara Interchange, Kiara Interchange-Maarof Interchange and Pusat Bandar Damansara-Semantan, Sazally said.
Work on this final phase will begin June 2015 and end January 2016. During this period, temporary traffic management and signage will be in place to alert motorists of traffic diversions.
Meanwhile, MRT Corp strategic communications and public relations director Amir Mahmood Abdul Razak said MRT will hand over the LDP and Sprint stretches taken over for construction since 2012.
The MRT project is already 62% complete, and construction work adjacent to the LDP and Sprint will no longer involve ground work by June - work will be more focused on the track at this stage.
