Details on the new engines offered in the facelifted Toyota Auris, which surfaced in March at the Geneva show, have been let loose.

First up, the all-new 1.2 litre petrol turbo, which joins the existing 1.33 litre Dual VVT-I and 1.6 litre Valvematic engines. 116 PS from 5,200 to 5,600 rpm and 185 Nm between 1,500 and 4,000 rpm are to be had, and with a six-speed manual, the car does the century sprint in 10.1 seconds before topping out at 200 km/h.

The direct-injected 1,197 cc motor has a 10:1 compression ratio and uses a water-to-air intercooler. Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions are a claimed 4.7 litres per 100 km and 109 grams per km respectively. The engine also has VVT-iW, so it can switch between Otto (for power) and Atkinson (for efficiency) cycles - you'll find VVT-iW on our Camry 2.0.

If the Multidrive S CVT is chosen, this 1.2 litre petrol turbo's fuel economy and CO2 emissions get even better: 4.6 litres per 100 km and 106 grams per km.

Then there's the new 1.6 litre diesel, which replaces the 2.0 litre unit and joins the revised 90 PS/205 Nm 1.4 litre D-4D. The engine develops 112 PS and 270 Nm of torque between 1,750 and 2,250 rpm, allowing the Auris to do 0-100 km/h in 10.5 seconds and max out at 190 km/h. The eco numbers are 4.1 litres per 100 km and 104 grams of CO2 per km.

Finally, the Hybrid, whose internal combustion component is a 1.8 litre petrol engine. The powertrain claims a combined 3.5 litres per 100 km and 79 grams of CO2 per km. The Hybrid commanded over half of Auris sales on the Continent in 2014.
