2016 Chevrolet Cruze Apple CarPlay

The interior of the new 2016 Chevrolet Cruze has been sneakily teased through an official press release detailing Chevrolet's support of both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (14 models will be compatible with both come the 2016 model year, in case you were wondering). The company has announced that the second coming of its C-segment contender will be unveiled on June 24.

Not much can be discerned from the sole peek at the cabin, just the centre console with the MyLink infotainment system displaying the CarPlay menu screen. From the looks of it, the design will be an evolution of the current J300's – vertical air vents flank a central display, under which sits the audio and climate controls. Dare I say it, it looks premium in here, what with the Mazda 2-esque stitching on the dashboard.

Actually, the entire design is pretty much identical to that of the new Chinese-market Cruze, introduced at Auto China last year. It was previously reported that the US-market version would be a completely separate model from the one sold in the Middle Kingdom; it now appears, however, that under the markedly different skins, both cars may not be as disparate as once thought.

Based on the D2XX platform that will also underpin the next-gen Astra, the Cruze is set to be powered by a new range of GM's Ecotec engines. These include a 1.5 litre turbo petrol producing roughly 160 hp and 250 Nm, as well as a 2.0 litre turbodiesel mill with 151 hp and 357 Nm. Transmission choices will reportedly include a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission as well as six-speed manual and automatic 'boxes.
