Unlike its hatchback sibling, the 2015 Skoda Superb Combi was unveiled with little to no fanfare at all - the former was teased endlessly before its reveal earlier this year. With that said, Skoda has given us (or at least those hankering for more space) a terrific reason to celebrate the arrival of its latest estate.
First things first, the Superb Combi retains the understated good looks of its hatch sister. The front fascia is dominated by a bold grille, replete with vertical slashes, and is flanked by rather angular headlight assemblies. Elsewhere, things remain identical with the inclusion of stylised taillights that cut into the tailgate. The fact that the profile remains cleanly-cut is testament to its VisionC Concept-inspired looks.
Following on from the benchmark laid down by its hatch twin, the MQB platform-based Superb Combi promises an unrivalled amount of interior space as well as luggage capacity in its class. The vast interior comes courtesy of a wheelbase that has been lengthened by 80 mm, resulting in a 2,841 mm overall figure. Track width has also been increased to 1,584 and 1,572 mm, front to rear, respectively.
Front occupants are promised a 39 mm increase in elbow room while headroom has been bumped up to 995 mm up front, the rear at 1,001 mm - the best figure in its class. Rear passengers get even more space to play with as Skoda quotes a knee room space of 157 mm, a figure the Czech carmaker says is double to that of its nearest competitor. Meanwhile, rear elbow room has been upped by 70 mm over its predecessor.
Then comes the class-leading cargo capacity of the 2015 Skoda Superb Combi. With the rear seats deployed, luggage space is recorded at a whopping 660 litres - a 27-litre increase over the outgoing Superb Combi. With the rear seats folded down, luggage capacity gets increased to a 1,950 mm.
Aside from the increased cargo room, the interior of the Skoda Superb Combi will feature the same clean, uncluttered layout found on the hatch variant. Technological goodies include the adoption of the Smartlink interface - featuring MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Optionally, a "high-speed" internet connectivity feature is offered.
Engine options are likely to mirror its hatch sibling. That should equate to a range of Euro 6-compliant mills which include five different TSI petrol (from 125 to 280 hp) options and three TDI diesel (120 to 190 hp) choices. Power gets sent to the front axle as standard with all-wheel drive available on certain models.
The 2015 Skoda Superb Combi is all set to have its debut at the upcoming 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September before hitting the market in the same month. Prices are expected to be announced as its debut date approaches.
