As Ops Warta enters its second week of operations, The Star has reported that a total of 2,012 traffic offenders have now been issued arrest warrants after failing to settle their respective summonses. "The operation has entered phase two and we not only mount roadblocks but also visit their office or work place," said the Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
Since the launch of said operation on May 19, a total of 1.59 million arrest warrants have been issued. However, only 50,000 traffic summonses have been settled so far. "If they are still stubborn, we will continue with Ops Warta," he added. Most recently, a total of 9,836 individuals have elected to turn themselves in after receiving their respective warrants.
Individuals are encouraged to check on their outstanding summonses (should there be any) via online portals such as myeg.com.my and rilek.com.my. Physical locations include traffic police counters, Road Transport Department (JPJ) offices, post offices, Maybank ATMs and selected shopping malls.
