This is the next generation BMW X1 showing off its stuff on the Nurburgring, as part of its development and testing program. Although the new BMW X1 will be built on the same front wheel drive platform as its sibling the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer, it will have the option for xDrive all wheel drive, so it will be able to send power to all four wheels like the MINI Countryman.

Engine options should mirror those on the 2-Series Active Tourer, which debuted with 18i, 18d and 25i engine options, with either a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed auto or a new 8-speed auto, depending on the model. 20d, 20d, and 16d engine options were said to be coming soon for the 2-Series Active Tourer so we expect these to eventually be available for the new X1 as well. We might also see an eDrive plug-in hybrid.
