The facelifted Mitsubishi Outlander has been teased once again ahead of its New York International Auto Show debut on April 2, with a couple of more revealing images, including one of the updated rear end. The refreshed SUV will be company's first production car to debut its new styling language, previewed by the trio of concepts it brought to Tokyo in 2013, as well as the Outlander PHEV Concept-S shown at Paris last year.
As we've seen in the earlier leaked images, there will be a new chrome-laden front end with reshaped headlights, a larger grille and thick chrome bars on either side of the front bumper. There's also new, wider red-tinged (previously clear) tail lights, a redesigned rear valence, silver scuff plates, silver side mouldings, a new alloy wheel design and yet more conspicuous chrome trim across the tailgate.
Mitsubishi claims the facelifted Outlander will feature over 100 engineering and design updates, including lower noise levels, improved ride, handling and throttle response, as well as a "more eloquent yet functional" interior. We're also expecting a revised PHEV model that is set to better the current version's 880 km range.
We've been awaiting the arrival of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV on our shores for a while now – it was all set for a market introduction by the end of 2013 (and the car has been spotted on local roads multiple times), but a problem related to the lithium-ion battery led to production delays, putting plans on ice. In the meantime, you can read our first drive report here.
