You read that title right. Need for Speed will be back again later this year, and this time, it's going back to its underground roots. It's not quite going to be called NFS Underground 3, but it's effectively that – a follow up to the sub-franchise that we all know and love.

The Need for Speed franchise has had countless iterations over the years, but none more memorable that the two Underground releases in 2003 and 2004. Recapturing that success is new developer Ghost Games' number one priority.

Oh yes, car customisation, urban car culture, a storyline, they will all be back before the end of 2015, when the new game is due on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Last-gen console owners, it's up to upgrade.

Over to you, then. Watch the trailer above and the high-res, photo-realistic screenshots below, and tell us what you think in the comments section. Is this a backward step for the tired Need for Speed franchise, or is it exactly what it needs?
