The facelifted Volvo S60 has been on display in showrooms since last month, and now the updated Swedish compact exec fighter has finally been officially launched in Malaysia in both T4 and T5 flavours, as before.
We'll start off with the prices. The lower-spec T4 comes in at RM221,888, the same as the pre-facelift, while the range-topping T5 – as was revealed previously – retails at RM268,888, RM7,000 more expensive than before. Both prices are on-the-road without insurance, inclusive of a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty, five years' free service and five years' free Volvo On Call roadside assist.
Unveiled to the world in 2013, the refreshed S60 gets a new bonnet with sharper creases, more angular headlights, a wider grille that loses the previous chrome surround and sleeker lower air intakes. Gone are the driving lights flanking the grille of the old car, replaced by LED daytime running lights mounted lower down on the bumper.
At the rear, the lower bumper insert has been revised, while the twin round tailpipes get new chrome finishers. New wheels should feature on both cars, with the T5 seen here wearing 17-inch "Sadia" alloy wheels, replacing the previous "Njord" rollers.
Inside, there's a new black illuminated gear knob that replaces the previous transparent piece, revised illumination and silk metal air vent surrounds. The T5 also gets the new Digital Instrument Cluster with an eight-inch Adaptive Digital Display (as seen on the V40 and the facelifted XC60) and a DVD audio system with navigation and voice control.
Unlike our facelifted XC60, the updated S60 doesn't come with Volvo's new range of Drive-E engines, instead sticking with the existing T4 1.6 litre and T5 2.0 litre Gasoline Turbocharged Direct Injection (GTDi) four-pots that are related to Ford's EcoBoost mills.
The T4's B4164T motor produces 180 hp at 5,700 rpm and 240 Nm of torque between 1,600 and 5,000 rpm, while the T5's B4204T7 mill delivers 240 hp at 5,500 rpm and 320 Nm between 1,800 and 5,000 rpm. As before, both engines are mated to a six-speed PowerShift wet dual-clutch transmission, sending power to the front wheels.
As you'd expect from a Volvo, the safety features on the new S60 have also been improved. City Safety autonomous braking system now works at speeds up to 50 km/h, while the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) is now radar- rather than camera-operated and incorporates Cross Traffic Alert (CTA). The T5 additionally gets Pedestrian Detection and Cyclist Detection, as well as Road Sign Information (RSI).
Five exterior colours are available for the facelifted Volvo S60 – Flamenco Red, Ice White, Ember Black, Electric Silver and Seashell. There's also a sportier R-Design styling kit available as an option, along with a Polestar performance upgrade kit for the T4.
