The CD391 Ford Mondeo is set to make its official debut in Malaysia soon, and provisional specifications mentioned for the fifth-generation sedan include adaptive LED headlamps, adaptive cruise control, dual-zone auto climate control, SYNC 2 infotainment with an 8.0-inch touchscreen, reverse camera and MyKey.

Over in Australia, Ford has announced the initial specifications for the new D-segment sedan, which is of course known as the Fusion in North America, and the specs provide a good indicator of what to expect for our car, though of course variations are to be expected given that Australia will sell three trim levels of the Mondeo.

Based on what has been revealed so far in its teaser elements on the Ford Malaysia website, the Malaysian-spec Mondeo will contain a cross mix of features seen on the high-spec Titanium and mid-spec Trend versions due to be introduced Down Under (somewhat similar to that on the Ford Kuga in the initial stages - the later local-spec Special Edition is the equivalent of the Oz-spec Titanium).

Adaptive Cruise Control is available from Trend, while the adaptive LED headlamps are seen on the Titanium, as is Lane Keeping Aid + Assist - the presence of LKA should see lane departure warning, blind spot information system and drive impairment monitor being included in the MY-spec car.

There's no mention of Active City Stop, enhanced Active Park Assist or Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection, which are found on the higher-spec Oz cars, for our car, so we might not see these here.

The Malaysian car will have what constitutes the usual fit of seven airbags (front, thorax, curtain and driver knee), but will omit the inflatable rear seatbelts found on the Australian cars (which makes for a total of nine airbags on that one). Otherwise, traction control, DSC and hill launch assist should be on for the count.

The SYNC 2 infotainment system will offer USB/SD inputs as well as natural language Voice Control for phone, music, climate and navigation controls. Australia gets DAB+ and satellite navigation - we definitely won't get the former, and chances are the latter won't be seen as well.

Though it hasn't been mentioned, general kit we can expect on the local cars will include auto headlamps, auto high beam, rain-sensing wipers, 10-way powered front seats and partial leather seats. It remains to be seen if our Mondeo will be fitted with 17-inch (Trend) or 18-inch wheel options (Titanium, along with a bodykit).

Australia is set to get two engines, the 2.0 litre EcoBoost and a 180 PS 2.0 TDCi. The EcoBoost is available in two output tunes - the base Ambiente version gets a 203 PS version, while the Trend and Titanium features the 240 PS, the same as seen on the outgoing CD345 third-gen Mondeo. We'll be getting the 240 PS tune, of course.

Of note is the change in transmission - the PowerShift from the outgoing car (which was launched here in 2011) has been replaced by the six-speed 6F35 SelectShift automatic transmission, a conventional torque converter unit as seen on the Ford Kuga.

Eight colours will be available for the Mondeo in Australia - Magnetic, Ruby Red, Blazer Blue, White Platinum Tri-Coat, Frozen White, Deep Impact Blue, Moondust Silver and Panther Black. Suffice to say the local car's colour palette won't be as wide ranging, but we'll know what the shades are soon enough.

Test drives for the new Mondeo have been scheduled ahead of its introduction in Malaysia, with the first set to take place at Publika on March 11-15 (full Klang Valley schedule here). We'll have more details about the local-specification cars when that happens, so stay tuned.
