Ford Mustang LA 1

Ford has revealed details of the Euro-spec version of the 2015 Ford Mustang, which is set to begin arriving on the continent in July and the UK in October. More than 2,200 orders have been placed for the sixth-gen pony car in Europe since bookings for it began earlier this year.

Like in most global markets, the S550 will be available in fastback and convertible bodystyles with six-speed manual and automatic transmissions. Powertrain options are the 5.0 litre Coyote V8 and the 2.3 litre EcoBoost turbo four.

Output and performance figures for the Euro versions have also been released - the 5.0 litre V8 will offer 421 PS and 530 Nm, which is slightly down from the US version (435 hp and 542 Nm). The Euro-spec 2.3 litre EcoBoost, meanwhile, is good for 317 PS and 432 Nm of torque, a slight bump over the American output of 310 hp and 434 Nm.

Performance-wise, the 5.0 litre V8 fastback with a six-speed manual transmission does the 0-100 km/h sprint in 4.8 seconds, while the 2.3 litre EcoBoost fastback manual does the same run in 5.8 seconds. Curiously enough, the latter is a shade slower than the quoted US performance of 5.4 seconds, so it'd be interesting to see if the numbers for our cars (and for Australian Mustangs) follows the North American numbers.

Elsewhere, fuel efficiency numbers are 13.5 l/100 km for the 5.0 litre and 8.0 l/100 km for the 2.3 EcoBoost, and CO2 emissions are rated at 299 and 179 g/km respectively.

As standard, all European Mustangs will come equipped with a Performance Pack, which includes uprated brakes, a gauge pack and a revised ratio limited-slip differential in its kitbag. There's also mention of the four-gang toggle-switch pack, which controls four selectable drive modes (Normal, Sport+, Track and Snow/Wet), so the Euro cars should also be Premium variants.

Additionally, the 5.0 litre features an electronic line-lock (activated using the Mustang Track Apps feature) and the manual gets launch control.

Standard equipment will include 19-inch wheels, automatic HID headlamps, dual-zone climate control, LED tail lamps, a rear diffuser as well as a nine-speaker sound system and SYNC 2 voice control connectivity, complete with an eight-inch colour touchscreen. European consumers will be able to pick from a choice of 10 exterior colours.

We've already reviewed the latest Ford Mustang, and in case didn't know, it's coming to Malaysia this year!
