Other than revealing the estimated local prices of the Zoe and Twizy EVs, Renault Malaysia has also confirmed to us at paultan.org that the Clio GT and Captur models will be launched here before the end of this year. More specifically, the Clio GT will arrive in Q3, and the Captur in the last quarter of 2015.

The Clio GT is essentially a warm version of the standard hatchback, to slot in below the full-fledged Clio RS 200. It's powered by a tuned-up version of Renault's 1.2 litre TCe engine, which makes 120 hp and 190 Nm of torque. It comes standard with Renaultsport-developed Sport Chassis, and gets to 100 km/h in 9.9 seconds through a six-speed EDC dual clutch transmission.

Slightly more interesting is the Renault Captur, which is a B-segment SUV – similar to the hugely popular Honda HR-V. It sits on a modified Clio platform, and we've been told that the Malaysia-bound model will have a 1.2 litre TCe engine as well. It should prove competitive to the Peugeot 2008 and Ford EcoSport, if not so the marginally larger HR-V 1.8.

Other than the two confirmed models, it has also been revealed that a Renault-badged Duster is seen as "a possibility" for this country, especially for the East Malaysian-market. The budget SUV is already on sale in Indonesia (in CKD form, no less), though currently it can only be had with a manual transmission. Once an automatic version is available, Malaysia will be one of its target markets.

Models not currently under consideration for Malaysia include the new Espace and Lodgy MPVs. The former is only built in left-hand drive form at the moment, while the latter is deemed not suitable for our market (it's basically a small budget MPV meant for less-discerning markets such as India). However, Renault is tinkering with the idea of a more upscale version of the Lodgy that could see light here in the future.
