Volvo XC90

The order books for the 2015 Volvo XC90 are now open in Malaysia! The second-generation, seven-seater SUV was first revealed to the world back in August 2014 and represented the Swedish carmaker's first major step in revamping its product lineup.

According to local Volvo dealers, the "Twin Engine" T8 plug-in hybrid has been mooted as the sole engine choice on offer while estimated pricing for the XC90 is said to range from RM500,000 to RM550,000. The first 100 units are said to be CBU ones while CKD variants are expected to arrive sometime next year. An official local introduction of the XC90 is expected to take place in August/September 2015.

To refresh your memory, the XC90 T8 comes powered by a turbocharged/supercharged 2.0 litre four-cylinder engine with 318 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Power from the combustion engine gets sent to the front wheels while an electric motor with 82 hp and 240 Nm of torque sends it all to the rear axle - effectively turning the XC90 T8 into an all-wheel drive behemoth with 400 hp and 640 Nm of torque.

Additionally, a 34 kW crankshaft-mounted starter generator (CISG) between the engine and the gearbox is featured - CISG works as a starter motor, a power generator and also adds in an extra 150 Nm of torque, if required. A 65 kW battery pack provides the juice to the aforementioned setup. An all-electric range of 40 km is possible with the 0-100 km/h done and dusted in 6.4 seconds, CO2 emissions are recorded at 59 g/km.
