Introducing the new generation Polestar Performance Optimisation

Volvo has introduced a new Polestar Performance Optimisation package for Drive-E-powered models, essentially a tune-up option that increases engine output and, for the first time, alters transmission characteristics as well. The upgrades are the result of the collaboration between Volvo R&D and drivetrain manufacturer Aisin Warner, during the development of the limited edition S60 and V60 Polestar models.

The kit focuses on boosting the engines' mid-range performance to improve driving experience and drivability in a wider range of situations, but now also includes modifications aimed at sharpening engine and transmission response both on- and off-throttle, producing faster gearshifts, optimising shift point calibration as well as holding the gear through corners.

Engines that will receive the pack starting from the end of June will initially include T5 and T6 petrol mills as well as D5 and D6 diesels, with over 140 other variations being introduced over the coming months. The upgrades will be applied without affecting factory warranty, service intervals, fuel economy or emissions.

"The new generation marks a big step forward," said Polestar CEO Christian Dahl. "By expanding our optimisations to the drivetrain, we are able to offer a new dimension in enhanced driving experience for performance oriented Volvo customers."
