Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) is looking to start construction of the second phase of the Klang Valley MRT project – running from Sungai Buloh to Putrajaya – by June next year, with completion expected within the next five years, according to a Bernama report.
The new 52.2 km MRT Line 2 will connect the two cities via Serdang and, much like the current Kelana Jaya LRT line, will make use of elevated and underground train lines – the former stretches some 38.7 km, the latter spanning 13.5 km. Passing through 36 stations (25 elevated, 11 underground), the whole journey is expected to take 84 minutes.
MRT Corp's director of strategic relations and public communications Mahmood Razak told reporters that the public display of the Detailed Environment Impact Assessment (DEIA) will run until May 19, with feedback to be received before June this year. He added that a stakeholder engagement, including a perception survey, case interviews, public dialogues and focus group discussions were also ongoing.
"Based on feedback from the perception survey and stakeholders engagement, safety and security, traffic congestion, dust pollution, noise and vibration plus flash floods were perceived as the most important concerns.
"We took mitigation measures such as further engagement before construction and during construction and proper standard operating procedures when dealing with cracks and vibrations from construction activities," Mahmood Razak said.
