The Land Rover Discovery Sport is set to add a new engine into the model line-up - the TD4 is set be be equipped with JLR's 2.0 litre four-pot Ingenium turbodiesel, which was launched last September.
Market deployment is due to begin later this year - when it arrives, the unit will replace the current 2.2 litre turbodiesel in markets where Euro 6-compliant vehicles are sold. Initial orders for Europe and South Korea will start from next month.
The Discovery Sport's Ingenium unit will be available in two output state of tunes, 150 PS and 180 PS, the latter identical to that on the similar oil burner equipping the new Jaguar XE. Fuel economy is rated at 4.9 l/100 km and CO2 emissions, from 129 g/km.
Performance-wise, the 180 PS version will be able to do the 0-100 km/h sprint in 8.9 seconds and get to a top speed of 188 km/h. The company is touting extended service intervals for the new mill, 34,000 km as opposed to the 25,000 km for current models.
The Ingenium-powered Discovery Sport TD4 will also be designated an 'E-Capability' vehicle, with a blue 'Sport' badge highlighting it as the most efficient variant in the line-up. The E-Capability rating applies to five-seat Disco Sport versions fitted with either the 150 PS or 180 PS mills with 18-inch wheels and low rolling resistance tyres.
The automaker adds that an even more efficient front-wheel drive Ingenium-equipped Discovery Sport will be added to the range later in the year.
