The next-generation Renault Megane IV is set to be make its debut at this year's Frankfurt Motor Show in September, reports Indian Autos Blog. The website spoke to Renault design boss Laurens Van Den Acker at the world premiere of the Renault Kwid in Chennai, India, earlier this week.
The 2016 Renault Megane will sit on Renault-Nissan Alliance's Common Module Family (CMF-CD) architecture, the same platform underpinning Nissan's X-Trail, Qashqai and Pulsar models, as well as Renault's fresh Espace and Kadjar crossovers.
That should translate to more rigidity and less weight compared to the current Megane III, which has been around since 2008. It's time for a renewal, as the Megane's main Euro rivals Peugeot 308, Volkswagen Golf and Opel/Vauxhall Astra are all younger. The new Astra is also set to make its debut at Frankfurt, by the way.
"We will have a very sexy, very sensual, very attractive sporty looking vehicle, with all the new technologies which will install itself nicely in the lineup," Van Den Acker added. Check out Renault's latest effort with a largely similar size, the Kadjar crossover, for a good idea of how the next Megane will look like.
It was also reported that Renault will be cutting the number of buttons on the dashboard, shifting functions to a large nine-inch touchscreen display, while improving the quality of cabin materials.
