Yet another debutant races to next month's 2015 Geneva Motor Show in the shape of the facelifted DS 5. Just don't call it a Citroën – yes, the Different Spirit sub-brand has now blossomed into a full-fledged luxury marque within PSA Peugeot Citroen, and the styling of the refreshed large hatchback reflects this move.
At the front sits a new heavily-chromed DS grille – as seen on the DS 5LS and DS 6 – that dispenses with the double chevrons, replaced by a DS monogram. The chrome wings bleed into the xenon headlights, which feature new internal graphics (they now have LED modules as well as sequential indicators, as seen the facelifted DS 3), but keep the same shape as before. The side intakes have also been slightly reshaped.
Elsewhere, very little has changed, but the interior does receive a new Touchdrive infotainment system, controlling everything from navigation to music. The touchscreen streamlines the control layout, with 12 fewer buttons on the centre console. Another new function incorporated into the system is Mirror Screen, which mirrors a smartphone's screen on the centre display.
In addition, the new DS 5 is also available with DS Connect Box, including an SOS and Assistance Pack that can send out localised distress calls in the event of an emergency. A number of new Connect Packs provide options in displaying driving and maintenance information, as well as tracking the car in case of theft, while a new MyDS smartphone app offers vehicle information on-the-go and grants exclusive special offers.
Blind-spot monitoring joins the DS 5's already broad range of safety systems that include lane departure warning and automatic high beam control. Elsewhere, there's a new black and sapphire blue colour scheme for the "watch strap" leather upholstery, while Encre Blue joins the exterior colour palette.
By far the biggest change to the new DS 5, however, is its new range of Euro-6 engines. The 165 PS/240 Nm 1.6 litre THP 165 petrol engine is now mated to an updated six-speed automatic transmission, consuming 5.9 litres per 100 km combined and emitting 30 g less carbon dioxide per km than before, at 135 g per km. Later in the year, a 210 PS THP 210 version will be made available, coupled to a six-speed manual.
The diesel lineup has also been updated with new BlueHDI mills in 120 PS/300 Nm, 150 PS/370 Nm and 180 PS/400 Nm variants, consuming 3.8 litres/100 km, 4.4 litres/100 km and 4.3 litres/100 km respectively. The Hybrid4 all-wheel drive model is unchanged, but has been rebadged as the Hybrid 4x4 Diesel.
On the chassis side, the dampers now feature preloaded linear valves (PLV) for more linear damping and a longer compression stroke, while suspension impact noise has been reduced.
