The production version of the Infiniti Q60 is set to be powered by a range of Mercedes-Benz engines, as motoring.com.au understands. Previewed at the 2015 Detroit motor show, the new Q60 is set to replace the Infiniti G37 Coupe when it goes on sale next year.
At Detroit, the Q60 was touted to come with a direct-injected, 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6 mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission. However, sources close to Infiniti have revealed that the production Q60 will arrive with a Mercedes-Benz-developed 3.0 litre, twin-turbo V6 producing 332 hp and 479 Nm of torque coupled to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
A second, more powerful mill is also said to be available, in the guise of a Mercedes-Benz-sourced 4.7 litre, twin-turbo V8 which pumps out 408 hp. Apart from that, the Infiniti Q60 is also reported to be made available with a range of Nissan's VQ engines, which includes a naturally-aspirated 3.0 litre V6 and a 3.5 litre V6 hybrid powertrain.
Unfortunately, earlier attempts at squeezing the Nissan GT-R's twin-turbo V6 mill - à la Q50 Eau Rouge concept - under the bonnet proved unsuccessful, as it required a major redesign of the Q60's front end. The entire project has been placed on hold after company deemed it too costly.
