The 2015 Mitsubishi Triton has been awarded a five-star Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) safety rating. Introduced recently for the Australian and New Zealand market, the second-generation pick-up truck comes with a plethora of safety equipment including dual frontal, side chest and curtain airbags along with a driver's knee airbag as standard.
Though the model tested here is the 2.4 litre turbodiesel double-cab variant, the rating applies to all body styles, irregardless of engine choice and driven wheels. Additional standard safety equipment includes Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) and seat belt reminders.
Of the 37 points up for grabs, the 2015 Mitsubishi Triton bagged a total of 36.22 points. It scored 15.22 (out of a total of 16 points) and a maximum 16 points for the frontal offset and side impact tests, respectively. Whiplash protection was rated as 'good' while pedestrian protection managed an 'acceptable' rating.

Order books for the Triton are already open with estimated pricing set to begin at RM71k to RM114k OTR with insurance. Expect its local launch to take place sometime in May.
