The 2016 Chevrolet Spark has made its global debut at two corners of the world - the 2015 New York International Auto Show (2015 NYIAS) and the 2015 Seoul Motor Show. The latest incarnation of the Bowtie's global supermini is set to go on sale in over 40 different countries with sales starting at the end of 2015.

Assembled in South Korea, the Spark features its own unique take on the dual-port front grille that now adorns the front end of newer Chevy models, the 2016 Malibu being one of the latest recipients. Elsewhere, a longer wheelbase and a 40 mm drop in the car's overall height gives it a more "planted presence" while elliptical head lamps help to further distance it from the outgoing model's upright, slightly cartoonish looks.

Moving on to the rear, the stylised tail lamps do give off a Kia Picanto-esque vibe, even more so when one considers the Picanto in a similar viridescent shade. Additional exterior furnishing comes in the form of a restyled tailgate design which features an integrated rear spoiler.

Under the bonnet, a new 1.4 litre Ecotec four-cylinder engine provides adequate thrust via its claimed 98 hp. Transmission options include a five-speed manual, which comes as standard, or a CVT - the latter helps the Spark chalk up a fuel consumption figure of 17 km/l on the highway cycle.

Inside, a new seven-inch touchscreen houses Chevy's MyLink infotainment platform - OnStar with 4G LTE WiFi connectivity is available as an option. Other interior niceties are present in the form of an instrument cluster that features LCD displays for the infotainment and climate control settings.

In terms of safety equipment, the 2016 Chevrolet Spark is equipped as standard with 10 airbags and a reverse camera. Optionally available are a plethora of active safety features which include Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Alert and rear parking assist.
