2016 Scion iM-07

Scion didn't just bring a rebadged Mazda 2 Sedan to the 2015 New York International Auto Show; the subcompact iA made its debut alongside the 2016 Scion iM. The iM is essentially the current Toyota Auris hatchback with Scion badges and a different grill treatment - black in place of chrome and honeycomb replacing slats.

Toyota's youthful sub brand first revealed its intentions for a compact (for North America) five-door hatchback with the iM Concept from the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The Scion iM is powered by a 137 hp 1.8 litre Valvematic engine, paired to either a six-speed manual or CVT automatic gearbox with seven-speed manual mode. The iM rides on fully independent suspension (rear double-wishbones) while EPS steering turn 17-inch alloys with fat 225/45 tyres. Noise is neutralised by an acoustic layer windshield, foam-type insulation and floor silencer sheets.

Scion is very proud of its mono-spec offerings, and this one packs in quite a bit considering its modest price tag. Standard kit includes eight airbags (including driver's knee and front passenger seat cushion airbag), bodykit, six-speaker Pioneer touchscreen stereo, reverse camera, Bluetooth, dual-zone auto air con, heated power-folding wing mirrors and auto headlamps.

Plenty of options, and the list includes navigation, body graphics, interior light kit, all-weather floor mats, roof rack and TRD performance parts, including an air intake system, anti-roll bar and lowering springs. Dog owners are catered for with a dog harness with tether, door guards, seat pet barrier and even a grass pad, which discourages your furry friend from standing on centre console.

The Scion iM will hit American showrooms later this year with an under $20,000 (RM73,382) sticker price.
