According to a report by IndianAutosBlog, citing The Economic Times, Hyundai India is on track to introduce a MPV specifically-developed to cater to the needs and wants of local consumers. Internally known as the 'IP', the MPV is slated for an Indian market debut come the year 2017.

For now, not much is known about the 'IP' except for the fact that it could be a production version of the Hyundai HND-7 Hexa Space concept that made its debut in 2012. The concept rides on the same platform as the compact ix20 but boasts up to eight seats via its configurable, hexagonally-shaped layout. Elsewhere on the inside, a touchscreen, cluster ionizer air purifier and plenty of cubby holes are present.

When it does go on sale, the 'IP' is set to compete against the likes of the Honda Mobilio, Maruti Ertiga and Renault Lodgy. Technical details remain scarce but sources have disclosed that the 'IP' will come powered by a range of petrol as well as diesel engines mated to a manual transmission as standard.

An automatic gearbox is, reportedly, offered as an option - which shouldn't be considered as a surprise when the HND-7 concept was presented with a Kappa 1.2 litre turbo GDI engine that was paired to a six-speed automatic. So while India awaits the 'IP', do you think a relatively affordable Hyundai MPV would sell here?
