It's no surprise that the 2016 Toyota Hilux is on the way, with spyshots of a prototype running about and even a leaked brochure of the truck itself circulating cyberspace. Now, Hilux Revo Thailand reports that the eighth-generation pick-up truck will make its debut on May 21 with Thai sales slated to commence later this year.

Aside from its new looks, the 2016 Hilux has been reported to arrive on the scene with two new engines - a 2.4 litre and 2.8 litre engine, both turbocharged diesel units. Power outputs for the 2.4 VNT (Variable Nozzle Turbo) mill are expected to hover about the 150 PS/343 Nm mark with a five-speed manual transmission and 167 PS/400 Nm with the six-speed automatic gearbox.

The larger 2.8 litre mill is touted to displace a total of 177 PS and 420 Nm of torque when paired to a manual gearbox, the automatic adds on another 30 Nm. Looks wise, expect quite the makeover with brochures indicating a revised front grille design. Elsewhere, the headlights, lower air intake and fog lamp assemblies receive a more contemporary touchup, as well.

On the inside, significant changes are touted with the inclusion of a tablet-like touchscreen display and a rejuvenated dash layout. Not too long before the full reveal now, stay tuned everyone.
