It appears that Kia is looking to showcase an electric concept for the upcoming 2015 Chicago motor show, which will take place next month. Not much to go by as yet, with the brand opting for the tease-your-way-to-the-show route, with just one image of what appears to be a more robust-looking version of the Kia Soul.
Furnished with black plastic body cladding, a steel skid plate and rather gaudy-looking wheels, the Kia e-AWD concept appears to have all the right hints of an off-roader. However, the inclusion of an electric all-wheel drive powertrain does pose a number of questions over its abilities.
From the looks of it, a production version does not sound too far-fetched, as Kia has stated that the rugged concept is aimed at "city dwellers seeking the ultimate urban escape (and) captures the essence of adventuring at higher elevations with the promise of sure-footedness in the wild."
The current production Kia Soul EV features an electric motor with 108 hp/285 Nm, driving the front wheels via a single-speed constant-ratio reduction gear. A lithium-ion battery pack ensures the car obtains an official operational range of 150 km, fully charged.
