SLK

Changes are aplenty for the 2015 R172 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class with the range receiving new powerplant and transmission options along with added standard conveniences and safety equipment. This is a surprising move to say the least, as the new SLC-badged facelift model (following Merc's new naming structure) shouldn't be too far off now.

The base SLK 200 gets a new engine - a turbocharged 2.0 litre unit from the latest C- and E-Class to replace the old 1.8 litre mill. Output figures are now 184 hp and 300 Nm (30 Nm up from before). Using the same engine is the new SLK 300, in place of the outgoing SLK 250. With 245 hp and 370 Nm (up 40 hp and 60 Nm), it gets to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds.

Further up the range, the V6-engined SLK 350 (306 hp, 370 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds) and V8-powered SLK 55 AMG (421 hp, 540 Nm, 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds) remain unchanged. The sole diesel variant, the SLK 250 d (previously SLK 250 CDI), has a 2.1 litre engine with 204 hp and 500 Nm of torque. It has a 0-100 km/h time of 6.6 seconds and an official fuel consumption rating of 4.4 l/100 km.

Additional standard equipment include start/stop capabilities across the range, along with LED daytime running lights (previously an option) and an LTE-capable onboard antenna. Also, the SLK's safety kit gets ramped up with the inclusion of Attention Assist, Distronic Plus and Collision Prevention Assist Plus.
