The Mercedes-Benz C-Class Cabriolet has been spotted out and about by our intrepid European spy photographers, wearing less camouflage than before – this follows the fashion of its hardtop cousin, which is said to be making its debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
The cabrio's C-Class influences are clear to see in the familiar front end, here fitted with the AMG Sport kit. However, like the coupé, it will differentiate itself from the regular sedan and estate through new wing mirrors, slim, wide tail lights and a low-set number plate recess, cues taken from the S-Class Coupe.
Unlike its closest rival, the BMW 4 Series Convertible, the C-Class Cabrio will utilise a fabric roof instead of Munich's more complex and heavier folding metal top. The interior should be largely identical to the sedan and estate variants, but could make use of more upscale trim options as well as unique features like Airscarf neck blowers on the front seats.
Engine choices should be identical to the regular C-Class, with the use of four- and six-cylinder turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, a 476 PS (510 PS on the S model) 4.0 litre twin-turbo V8 on the AMG C 63 as well as a 362 PS 3.0 litre twin-turbo V6 on the mid-level C 450 AMG. A C 350 e plug-in hybrid is expected to be featured, too, as should a 4Matic all-wheel drive option.
