2015 hyundai sonata us 01

This latest recall doesn't have anything to do with airbags, but with seatbelts. About 140,000 units of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata are being recalled, specifically 129,000 in the US and 10,401 in Canada.

The problem lies with the seatbelt tongue, as if it's forcibly inserted into the buckle at a certain angle, there's a possibility that it can jam, preventing the front passenger from fastening the seat belt. The seat belt warning lamp will illuminate if the front passenger seat belt is not buckled while the seat is occupied.

According to an advisory by Transport Canada, if the vehicle were to be driven in this condition, it could increase the risk of injury to the front passenger occupant in the event of a crash.

This particular safety campaign covers 2015 Sonatas with production dates between April 25 and December 4, 2014, according to Hyundai. There have been no reports of injuries from this issue, and owners will receive notifications by mail in about a month. Dealers will inspect the part and repair or replace it as necessary.
