According to The Sun, the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) has decided to abandon its parking coupon pilot project after lacklustre response from the public. Its council president, Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan, said that during a five-month period from February to June, approximately 1.5 million coupons were printed, but only 100,000 were snapped up.
"Rather than having to walk from one's car to the nearest ticketing machine, we thought the coupon system would be a convenient option," he said. He added that contributing factors to the poor response included a lack of agents selling coupons.
Nor Hisham said that MPSJ will not be printing new coupons, as the 1.4 million remaining coupons are still valid till 2017. The report doesn't mention it, but the assumption must be that the existing coupons will be sold until then.
