Here are more spyshots of the next-generation Kia Sportage on test, captured right in front of the Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Centre in Rüsselsheim, Germany. Compared to our previous set of images, these pics are of a car that's wearing a bigger black dress, covering almost the entire front and rear sections.
Small wheels (compared to the two previously spotted rim designs) and high profile Hankooks aside, there's nothing much of note. However, we now have a first look at the new Sportage's dashboard.
The dashboard design is clearly a big departure from the previous model, but there are also differences from the pleasing layouts of bigger brother Sorento and the Carnival MPV. Compared to the two, there seems to be an effort to cordon off the lower centre stack for a slight "driver focused" feel.
The big central screen (a range-topping Infinity option in this case) flanked by air vents is a familiar theme, but the typewriter-key HVAC buttons are new. The steering wheel is also not the unit from the Sorento, but appears similar to the one in the new Optima. We also can see what looks like 4WD lock and hill descent control buttons behind the gear lever.
This Sportage is the sister car of the latest Hyundai Tucson that was unveiled early this year, and should share the Hyundai's drivetrains, which now includes T-GDI downsized turbo engines and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. It should be revealed soon, possibly at Frankfurt in September.
