Turbo or naturally-aspirated? Well now it's pretty much confirmed that the upcoming '991.2' Porsche 911 will have forced-induced engines only. According to Auto Bild, the Carrera and Carrera S will have their naturally-aspirated engines swapped for a new 3.0 litre turbocharged boxer motor. Well, at least it's still a flat-fix, right?
The all-new turbo mills are said to be capable of generating 364 hp in the base Carrera, while the Carrera S should get 50 hp more, for a total output of 414 hp. Previously, both had naturally-aspirated power plants: a 3.4 litre free-breathing boxer in the Carrera that made 350 hp, and a 3.8 litre with 400 hp in the Carrera S.
Apparently, torque in both the Carrera and Carrera S models will be rounded up to 500 Nm, compared to 390 Nm and 440 Nm in the outgoing models. As for the century sprint, the new Carrera is said to go from 0-100 km/h in just 4.3 seconds, while the Carrera S should do it in four flat - both 0.5 seconds faster than before.
It is also reported that the 911 will receive tech upgrades too. It's understood that the '991.2' will feature a touchscreen infotainment system with handwriting recognition, optional ceramic front brakes and, to prevent scraping of the front spoiler, a hydraulic lift feature to raise the car by 50 mm when needed.
Apart from that, the new-look 911 will have changes done to its head- and taillights, as well as redesigned front and rear bumpers (well, slightly). So, it looks like it'll be turbochargers all the way. Not much of a surprise is it?
