Official computer renderings of the upcoming Audi Q6 all-electric SUV have reportedly been leaked online, according to Aussie portal, CarAdvice. The pair of images were first seen on German publications, Auto Bild and Auto Motor und Sport, and are believed to have originated from a source within Audi.
Initially teased at the company's annual press conference, the SUV will, according to Autocar UK, be presented as a "production-relevant zero-emissions concept" at the upcoming Frankfurt show in September. Internally coded as C-BEV, the five-seater SUV is said to be in the final phases of development and will hit the market as a direct competitor to the upcoming Tesla Model X all-electric crossover.
Other competitors include the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, Range Rover Sport and BMW X6. Its coupe-like appearance will serve a purpose as well as a "sensational Cd value for an SUV" of just 0.30 has been mooted. Further dropping hints at the car's appearance is Audi's R&D chief, Ulrich Hackenberg, who commented that the Q6 will adopt "designs established on the Prologue concept."
Sales of the Audi Q6 are expected to commence "in key global markets during the second half of 2018." Said model will ride on the marque's latest iteration of its MLB platform - first seen on the second-generation Audi Q7 - and draw on technology currently employed on the Audi R8 e-tron electric sports car.
Reports indicate that the Audi Q6 will arrive on the scene with three electric motors, compared to the dual-motor setup in the R8 e-tron. A pair of motors will be mounted on the rear axle, driving the two wheels while a third motor will sit within the transmission. Said SUV will be no slouch either as projected power figures read in the region of 500 hp and 700 Nm of torque.
Juicing up the motors will be a lithium-ion battery pack mounted down low within the platform - an output north of 90 kWh has been touted. Elsewhere, the SUV is expected to be equipped with a plethora of technological features which includes autonomous driving. On the inside, the cabin will supposedly mirror the architecture in the next-generation Audi A8 flagship sedan.
