German automaker Borgward is slated to make its comeback after a 50-year absence at the upcoming 2015 Geneva motor show. Its revival, ten years in the making, is being helmed by Christian Borgward, who is the grandson of the company's founder, and his business partner, Karlheinz Knöss.
The company was founded in 1919 and was responsible for models such as the Borgward Isabella and Borgward Hansa. In addition to that, the firm was also involved in motorsports, having participated in race events such as Le Mans and the Nurburgring 1000km. Unfortunately, in 1961 the automaker was declared bankrupt.
"Relaunching Borgward is a childhood dream come true for me," said Christian. "We began shaping and designing the future of Borgward nearly ten years ago and are now ready for the next step. Geneva is an important step into our promising future and we cannot wait to be back there," added Karlheinz.
While no solid details regarding the firm's plans have emerged, the teaser shot it has provided displays the silhouette of a car, possibly indicating that the automaker is keen to begin producing again. Here's hoping for a classically-styled coupe with modern engineering to hit showroom floors in the future.
