We've been awaiting the arrival of the Renault Captur for a while now – the B-segment crossover was originally confirmed for the Malaysian market as early as April, with an expected market introduction in the fourth quarter of 2015.
Now, Renault Malaysia has launched a new website proclaiming the car's upcoming local preview, set to take place at the Centre Court of Bangsar Shopping Centre (BSC) from July 29 to August 2. We've already been told that Malaysian cars will feature a 120 hp/190 Nm 1.2 litre turbocharged TCe engine, and it should be mated to a six-speed EDC dual-clutch transmission.
The segment is becoming increasingly crowded – the Captur should prove competitive against the equally-Gallic Peugeot 2008 and the Ford EcoSport, if not quite as strong as the runaway success that is the Honda HR-V, nor the forthcoming Mazda CX-3.
Renault's offering could see its chances of success improve, however; the brand is expecting to introduce another locally-assembled (CKD) model next year, and the Captur is widely tipped to be one of the candidates. If so, the move could significantly lower the price to undercut much of the competition.
