There's a certain kind of a satisfaction when you watch a 4x4 going through muddy, down-trodden paths, doing stuff that normal cars can't do like wading through water, towing heavy loads and such. That's exactly what the 2015 Ford Ranger Wildtrak facelift does in these new promo videos.

The trim you see here is the top-spec Wildtrak dressed-up in Pride Orange. Being a facelift update, the powertrain remains pretty much the same, so you will still be able to choose from either a 3.2 litre variable geometry turbodiesel engine that makes 200 PS and 470 Nm or a slightly tweaked Duratorq TDCi 2.2 litre variable geometry turbodiesel which now makes 158 PS and 385 Nm.

You might be asking what the Rollover Mitigation is and why it has been showcased in the ad. Well, basically, it is a standard safety feature that's already available in the current crop of T6 Rangers. It works to prevent the vehicle from rolling over - think moose test. The way it does this is by utilising sensors that will immediately detect whether such an event is going to occur, and brakes are then automatically applied to selected wheels to mitigate that risk.

In addition to that, the new facelifted Ford Ranger also carries over all the assist systems from the current generation, including Hill Launch Assist (prevents your car from sliding backwards when the Ranger comes to a halt on a slope) and Hill Descent Control (brakes are automatically applied to maintain descent speed).

For now, it's still unknown whether the Malaysia-bound Ranger models will receive the optional electronic locking rear differential or even much-desired tech like Forward Alert, Lane Keeping Alert, Lane Keeping Aid, Driver Impairment Monitor (a drowsiness detection system) and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS). All we can do is keep our fingers crossed.

The top-spec Ranger Wildtrak 3.2 is currently priced at RM119,350 here in Malaysia. Let's wait and see how much Ford will be asking for the new facelifted version when it sets foot on Malaysian terrain later this year.
